Toyama is surrounded by natural beauty, with mountains and forests nearby. Japan's natural splendors are on full display here, and the bay belongs to the UNESCO-endorsed Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club. Visitors enjoy seeing ancient villages, thatched-roof farmhouses, and incredible snow corridors.

 

Toyama is known for its production of high-quality glass called "Toyama Glass." Toyama is known for its seafood due to its coastal location. Sushi and sashimi featuring fresh local catches are popular dishes. Additionally, Toyama Black Ramen is a regional specialty known for its dark soy sauce-based broth.

Toyama's harbor area is relatively close to the city center. It might take around 10 to 15 minutes by car or taxi to travel from the harbor to the central part of Toyama.

 

Getting Around

Toyama is a walkable city, and many of its attractions might be within walking distance of each other. Walking allows you to experience the city's streets, parks, and neighborhoods up close. In Toyama City, you'll find tram (streetcar) lines and bus services that cover various parts of the city. Trams are particularly useful for short distances within the city. The Gokayama region, known for its traditional thatched-roof houses, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts visitors interested in experiencing traditional rural Japan. The Toyama Glass Art Museum features a diverse collection of glass artworks from both local and international artists, as well as hands-on workshops.

 

 

Go to the Kaiwo Maru Park to see the Kaiwo Maru, a majestic tall ship that serves as a training vessel for the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force. You can explore the ship and learn about its history and significance.
